Amoxicillin Suspension Injection-Description
Amoxicillin Suspension is a commonly used, broad-spectrum antibacterial medication that is used to treat or control both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. The drug treats infections by preventing the production of the cell wall of bacteria, and it is most effective when the bacterium does not have oxygen to fuel the infection.
Amoxicillin treats a variety of infections caused by bacteria, for example, skin and wound infections, urinary or bladder infections, upper respiratory, and teeth infections. A generally safe drug, amoxicillin can be prescribed to most species.
Amoxicillin Suspension Injection-Indications
Gastrointestinal, respiratory and urinary tract infections caused by amoxicillin sensitive micro-organisms, like Campylobacter, Clostridium, Corynebacterium, E. coli, Erysipelothrix, Haemophilus, Pasteurella, Salmonella, penicillinase negative Staphylococcus and Streptococcus spp. in calves, cattle, goats, sheep and swine.
Amoxicillin Suspension Injection-Contra indications
Hypersensitivity to amoxicillin.
Administration to animals with a seriously impaired renal function.
Concurrent administration of tetracyclines, chloramphenicol, macrolides and lincosamides.
Amoxicillin Suspension Injection-Side effects
As with all veterinary medicine, some unwanted effects can occur from the use of amoxicillin suspension. Always consult a veterinary physician or animal care specialist for medical advice before use.
Vomiting, diarrhea, and loss of appetite are the more commonly seen side effects of amoxicillin. The medication is safe to give with or without food, but sometimes giving with food can help reduce nausea. Since possible drug interactions can occur. Amoxicillin suspension can also interact with other antibiotics, such as tetracycline and chloramphenicol.
Amoxicillin Suspension Injection-Dosage
For intramuscular administration:
General: 1 ml per 10 kg body weight, repeatable if necessary after 48 hours.
Shake well before use and do not administer more than 20 ml in cattle, more than 10 ml in swine and more than 5 ml in calves, sheep and goats per injection site.
Amoxicillin Suspension Injection-Withdrawal times
- For meat : 21 days.
- For milk : 3 days.
Not for use in sheep and goats producing milk for human consumption.
